5 Stress Busting Tips

We all feel stressed from time to time, whether it’s because of your job, family life, relationships, money worries, or something else entirely.

It’s important to recognise when we are feeling stressed, and to take good care of ourselves to avoid burnout and protect our mental wellbeing. Here’s 5 tips to help with managing stress:

1. Practice Mindfulness

Take a few minutes out of your day to focus on your breathing or do some meditation. Mindfulness can help you to stay grounded, and can reduce feelings of anxiety. You could follow a guided meditation online on platforms such as YouTube or Headspace, or simply close your eyes in a quiet space and focus on your breathing.

2. Stay Active

Regular exercise is not only essential for physical health but can also help with our mental health and managing stress. We release endorphins when we exercise, which are natural mood lifters. Whether it’s going for a brisk walk or run, doing some yoga, or going to the gym, find something that you genuinely enjoy and make it a regular part of your routine.

3. Set Boundaries

Learn to say no to things that add unnecessary stress to your life. Setting boundaries is not selfish but rather an act of self care. Prioritise your well-being by setting limits on your time and energy – saying no allows you to focus on the things that really matter to you and reduces the feeling of being overwhelmed.

4. Connect with Others

Socialising can be great for managing stress – whether it’s spending time with family, chatting with friends, or joining a support group, socialising can provide a sense of belonging and comfort. Opening up to someone you trust could be a weight off your shoulders.

5. Prioritise Self Care

Getting enough sleep, eating well, staying active, and making time for things you enjoy can do the world of good for your physical and mental health, and can help keep stress at bay. Try to make time every day to do something for yourself that makes you feel good.
